Point Amour Lighthouse, and the nearby Marconi Station provided employment for many local individuals, including the women who cleaned and kept house for the lighthouse keepers and Marconi operators. The lighthouse on Saddle Island in Red Bay and the one on Belle Isle also employed local residents as lighthouse keepers.
